Admission to CODA Psychiatric
You can get admitted to CODA Psychiatric in four different ways. They are:
> Emergency Admission
This is when you are admitted to the Psychiatric Hospital in a matter of desperate urgency. Mostly, this can be done in an ambulance when you or another person rings 000 when they check your state, or over the phone when you or another person rings 000. The operator will most likely ask you a couple of short questions (5 maximum) to determine if you need an Emergency Admission or if the Ambulance Staff have to admit you themselves if needed. This is the same as a life-threatening emergency. The Ambulance will rush you to the nearest CODA Psychiatric Hospital if the Call Operator has admitted you.
> Voluntary Admission
This is when you go to the EIT (Emergency Incident Treatment) at your local hospital to get admitted to a CODA Psychiatric Hospital. You voluntarily admit yourself to your local hospital. They will never turn you away or fail to admit you. You will then be transported in an Ambulance or a ETV (Emergency Transport Vehicle) to the hospital closest to the Hospital.
> Involuntary Admission
This is when your doctor/psychiatrist/therapist admits you to a CODA Psychiatric Hospital. This may not be your closest hospital, and you may have to admit yourself with a note or a form the doctor/psychiatrist/therapist gave you unless you are unable to, then transport will be provided. If your doctor has admitted you, you may get turned away for a maximum of 3 days, or told to wait. You can ask your Psychiatrist for a UDN (Urgent Doctor Note) instead of the Doctor Note your doctor gave you. The hospital will be in a 50 mile radius of your home, and transport to your home after admission will be provided if it is 25+ miles away.
> FtA (Failure to Admit) Admission
If you fail to admit yourself after an Involuntary Admission Note has been given to you, or the Psychiatric Hospital fails to admit you with a Doctor’s Note, you will receive another letter reminding you of your admission. If you still fail to turn up to the hospital, or any hospital, you will then receive an FtA Admission. An ambulance or the police will turn up at your house and forcefully admit you with the permission of your parents, or a guardian. An FtA Admission is taken like an Emergency Admission.
You can request transport to and from the Hospital to your house for free. Just let your Psychiatrist or Doctor know if you need transport.
